KARACHI: Hearing of case transfer application adjourned

KARACHI, Jan 8: The Sindh High Court on Monday adjourned hearing of application filed by two alleged Al-Qaeda suspects to transfer their trial from Anti-Terrorism Court-V to another ATC in Karachi.

Osman Ghani and Anwarul Haq are being tried in ATC-V for preparing plot of car bombing near the United States consulate in Karachi on March 2, 2006 in which four persons, including US diplomat David Foy, were killed and 48 others wounded.

The adjournment by Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany came as comments called from ATC-V in this regard were not received from the concerned trial court, which may be expedited before the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court under Section 28 of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

Expressing apprehension, applicants submitted trial court judge would not be able to act fairly and impartiality in the matter as he was regularly contacting US consulate officers. The court was prayed to transfer the case from ATC-V to another ATC in Karachi.

Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany adjourned hearing till date in office.—PPI
