KARACHI, Jan 7: Opener Asif Zakir narrowly missed scoring a century as Karachi Harbour made a fitting reply to Karachi Urban’s first innings score of 367 on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Gold League fixture at the National Stadium here on Sunday.
By close of play, Karachi Urban were sitting pretty at 226 for three with Saeed bin Nasir looking in ominous touch with an undefeated 75. Skipper Hasan Raza, the former Pakistan batsman, survived some anxious moments to score 12.
But it was Asif who stole the show as he struck 14 boundaries in making 93 off 141 balls during a stay of 231 minutes. He perished to a bat/pad catch at silly point off leg-spinner Mansoor Ahmed.
Asif was involved in two productive partnerships. First he added 80 for the opening stand with Khurram Manzoor (24) and then put on 96 for the second wicket with Saeed.
Afsar Nawaz fell cheaply when he saw his off-stump go cart-wheeling by a superb inswinger from Uzair-ul-Haq, who looked the best of three Karachi Urban pacemen.
Earlier, wicket-keeper/batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was last out after contributing a fine 60. His 109-ball innings was laced with five boundaries.
