LAHORE, Jan 6: Ashfaq Ahmed struck the lone goal to steer Wapda to a 1-0 win over Wohaib Club in the third Pakistan Premier Football League match at the Railways Stadium on Saturday.

Having the services of international players Ijaz Ghosay, Arif Mahmood and Imran Niazi, Wapda dominated the proceedings in both halves though Wohaib Club’s goal-keeper Zahid Nadeem and his defenders put up a firm defence. The scoreline remained 0-0 at the breather.

After a dull first half, Wapda managed to test Zahid through Mohammad Shahid and Imran Niazi in the 63rd and 68th minutes respectively but the keeper showed fine reflexes to prevent any goal.

In the 69th minute Ashfaq’s only goal of the match gave Wapda full three points. He rose above everybody to connect the right-wing corner from midfielder Ghulam Mustafa. Zahid failed to judge the flight of ball that eluded his fingers giving Ashfaq an easy chance to send the ball into the net.

Earlier, the two matches at Karachi’s Peoples Complex ended in draws.

The KESC did well to hold a star-studded KPT 0-0 while the all-bankers tie saw a 1-1 draw between the NBP and HBL.

The HBL opened the scoring in the 39th minute through Hayat Ullah but 55 seconds later the NBP restored parity with a goal from international midfielder Misbahul Hassan.
