Milk price fixed at Rs30

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Jan 6: The price control committee of the district government on Saturday proposed an interim relief of Rs2 on milk price by reducing its rate to Rs30 from Rs32 after a detailed discussion with the retailers and wholesalers.

The committee, at a meeting in Shahbaz Hall, decided to continue assessing the situation and finally fix the price in March.

The meeting was attended by retailers, wholesalers and sellers of animal food, besides EDO (revenue) Abdul Sattar Jatoo and committee members Q. Mohammad Hakim, Nasir Baloch and Dr Arif Razmi.

The retailers told the committee that they were facing financial problems due to rise in power tariff and prices of plastic bags, which had forced them to revise the price. The committee members said the price hike on that ground was not justifiable.

The cattle pen owners said that 20 per cent difference of expenses on cattle keeping was noted between last and current year as prices of oilcake, fodder and other items of cattle food had increased. They were told that the prices had risen because supply of fodder from Punjab had stopped. The meeting noted that milk supply from interior Sindh had also stopped.

He said that the committee had noted that when retailers got milk at Rs25.25 per kg, they sold it at Rs28 and now they were provided milk at Rs28.25 per kg but selling it at Rs32 which was not justified.
