HYDERABAD, Jan 6: A dejected father appealed to Sindh governor, chief minister and senior police officers on Saturday to order an impartial inquiry into the double-murder of his daughter and her husband and direct police to waste no more time to arrest the killers.

Syed Ashiq Ali Shah, a resident of Hussainabad, strongly criticised police at a press conference for dilly-dallying over the arrest of alleged killers of his daughter, Fehmida Bibi and son-in-law, Shafi Mohammad Shah, who he charged had been shot dead by late Shafi’s brothers Mumtaz Ali Shah, a jailer in Badin and Sher Mohammad Shah alias Imtiaz Shah alias Babu Shah.

Mr. Ashiq said that the murderers and their supporters were now trying to portray the cold blooded murders as a suicide. The two brothers who had a dispute with his son-in-law over a piece of land had been harassing him for last four to five years to compel him give up his property, he said.

They had twice made attempts on his life but he miraculously escaped unhurt. Family elders Syed Nazar Hussain Shah and Syed Ali Gohar Shah who later found the brothers guilty of attacks attempted to reconcile the brothers, he said.

But the two never stopped scheming against the life of his son-in-law and on the night of December 27 they found an opportunity to end his life and that of his wife, he said.

He said that although police had registered an FIR against the accused but they had made no serious efforts to arrest them.

LUMHS: The university’s director of admissions, too, directed the candidates of LUMHS, CMC Larkana and GMMMC Sukkur who had applied for admission to MBBS for the session of 2006-07 under the reserved quota for the disabled to appear before medical board in the office of LUMHS vice-chancellor at 10 am on January 13.
