ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president and Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has warned the government of ‘worst disorder’ during the by-polls on the National Assembly seat in Bajaur Agency on Wednesday and demanded that rulers should refrain from making it an issue of their ego.

The National Assembly seat was vacated by MMA’s Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid in protest against the airstrike on a Bajaur seminary which killed over 80 people.

Addressing a press confrence here on Saturday, Qazi Hussain said that the consequences of by-polls would be dangerous for the tribal belt as well as the country’s political atmosphere, adding that a MMA delegation would be meeting chief election commissioner on Monday to inform him about the dangers.

Recounting the event of madressah attack, the MMA chief said that 35 Hufaz of the Holy Quran, six religious teachers and underage students were killed in the attack.

The MMA leader said the madressah was at a distance of 13 kilometres from the office of the Bajaur political agent and was within the reach of FC personnel and law-enforcement agencies.

He said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf had claimed that it was under security agencies’ surveillance for more than a year therefore any law violator could have been easily arrested instead of destroying the whole building and killing innocent people.

Tribesmen of the whole area, Qazi Hussain said, were to the day mourning the deaths and protesting the attack.

He alleged that the by-polls were being coerced by force while people were not ready to cast votes.

He urged media organisations to try to reach out to the area to report facts and expose the coercions unleashed by authorities.

He alleged that Nato was flagrantly violating Pakistan’s air space and border sanctity by randomly intruding into Pakistani territory in hot pursuit.

He recalled forced elections held in Indian-held Kashmir in 1990-91 when no more than 2 per cent voters had turned up and led to intensified armed militancy by the Kashmiri people.
