PESHAWAR: Electricity tower damaged in blast

By Mohammad Ali Khan

PESHAWAR, Jan 6: A 132-KV power transmission tower was partially damaged on Saturday when an explosive device planted near it went off. Some unidentified persons had planted the explosive device near Tower No29 in the Masho area early Saturday morning. The explosion partially damaged the tower and knocked out electricity supply in the area.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion. The Peshawar Electric Supply Corporation had not registered an FIR about the incident till the filing of this report.

This is the second incident of its type within a period of a week. A similar incident took place in Regi area a few days ago.

A Pesco spokesperson on Saturday condemned the incident, and said such acts would further disturb the distribution network of the company.

He said due to power shortfall in the country, Pesco was carrying out load-shedding for what he claimed small intervals in some areas. He said such incidents would result in further load-shedding in the area. The spokesperson appealed to the people to help Pesco check cases of power theft and subversive acts so that uninterrupted power supply could be ensured to the people.
