KARACHI, Jan 6: A competition among science schoolteachers was held here at a local hotel on Saturday in connection with the city government’s Hamara Karachi celebrations. The event, Think Science 2nd Teaching Aid Competition, jointly organised by the Happy Home School and the Concordia Forum aimed at promoting effective means of teaching.
As many as 112 teachers of 43 schools from Karachi, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Mardan and Khairpur including three government schools took part in the contest.
Teachers were instructed to illustrate various topics from the course in an interesting and cost effective manner.
The contest involved four disciplines of science -- physics, biology, chemistry and Information Technology. The jury comprised eight educationists and men/women of science. The prizes for the occasion were sponsored by KFC, Intel, Soya Supreme and Siemens. Besides the USAID sponsored cost of some of the projects.
The guests of honour on the occasion were City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil, Sindh Adviser Fatima Surayya Bajia and chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Schools Mirpurkhas Anwar Ahmed Zai.
They all stressed the need for making such events accessible to the masses rather than a handful of people.
They urged the teachers to realise their responsibilities and adopt new means to impart education.
At the end, the founder of the Happy Home School, Marium Farooqi, gave away awards to the winners and distributed certificates among the participants.—Meera Jamal
