NEW DELHI, Jan 5: Chief of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq said on Friday that he had written to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon expressing his deepest regrets that the world body had so far failed to keep its promise of doing justice to the Kashmiri people.
A press release issued on his behalf in Srinagar quoted Mr Farooq as telling a Friday congregation at the Jama Masjid that while the UN had virtually taken Kashmir off its radar, the problems for the people of the region had increased manifold, including relentless abuse of human rights.
He expressed the hope that the talks between the Pakistani and Indian leaders would bring relief to his people.
In New Delhi, Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Afrasiab told reporters that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Pakistan would be a ‘big’ confidence-building measure (CBM).
