Pair of Raees, Mohammad win bridge event


KARACHI, Jan 5: Competing from East West direction, the pair of Raees Ahmed and Ghulam Mohammad produced amazing form to win the 23rd Super Bowl Pair bridge contest at the Aslam Bridge Hall of the National Stadium, Karachi on Thursday evening.

They scored 64.31 per cent to win the first contest of the new calendar year.

The Pakistan Bridge Federation organised the event in honour of the president of the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) Ghassan Ghanem and Ms Nuha Hattar, who are in Karachi these days in connection with preparation of the 14th BFAME Zonal bridge championship, which will be held in the month of May.

Syed Abdul Hameed and Farhat Abbas gave the leading pair tough time remaining in contention throughout the 26 board ordeal. They scored 60.83 per cent.

Mazhar Ali Khan-Hasan Sajjad scored 57.28 per cent for third position.

The pair of Munashir Puri and Khaled Mohiuddin topped from North South direction with a score of 63.31 per cent.

They remained at the top throughout 11 rounds.

Shakeel Chandna and Naveed Anjum Zaidi did their best but could not catch up wit the leaders. They finished at second place with a score of 55.41.

Ladies pair of Qudsia Dossa and Samia Rasheed occupied third position with a score of 54.35 per cent.—APP
