Women issues in education institutions highlighted

By A Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Jan 5: The participants of a workshop on Friday resolved to encourage women to take up administrative jobs in higher education institutions. The two-day workshop, which concluded on Friday, was organised at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU).

After two days discussions, 26 participants from various national universities and two foreign contributors worked out different recommendations for women promotion. The recommendations were read out by Vice Chancellor FJWU Dr Najma Najam.

She said every university in the country should set up a consultative body to highlight women issues in higher education institutions. The body would identify women issues, evolve strategies to accomplish tasks relating to women, take up their issues with higher authorities and support their causes in the institutions, she added.

Dr Najma said the present group of participants should remain vibrant and add as many members as possible to its network and exchange information by meeting regularly. Issues relating to women should be taken up in such forums and solutions be worked out after discussions basing upon personal experiences, the VC said.

She further said that after the dispersion of the forum, the participants should carry out the homework in their respective universities about identification of issues relating to women and about supporting their colleagues in taking up leadership roles in higher education institutions.

In the end, she urged upon the participants not to exaggerate and exploit the troubles of their fellow beings rather support young women in chalking out their career plan to vie for the positions of authority in the higher education system.

Concluding their discussion, the participant vowed to arrange such workshops in March every year to highlight the problems faced by women in the country.
