Self-determination day: demo held outside UN offices

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: On the occasion of Self-Determination Day for Kashmiris, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter organised a demonstration outside the United Nations (UN) Office here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Organiser MQM AJK chapter Tahir Khokhar and District Organiser Malik Altaf Awan said the UN must implement its resolution regarding Kashmir that was adopted on January 5, 1949.

They said self-determination was the basic right of the Kashmiris which was endorsed by the two countries on the floor of the United Nations. They called upon the international community and human rights organisations to play their role to solve the longstanding Kashmir issue.

In the end, they presented a memorandum to the representative of the United Nations calling for fulfilment of UN’s responsibilities in Jammu and Kashmir.

KASHMIRIS HOLD RALLY: Keeping in view with the Azad Kashmir government’s decision to observe Self-Determination Day, Kashmir Centre Rawalpindi brought out a rally which was participated by a large number of Kashmiris. The rally started from Chandni Chowk which culminated at Kutchery Chowk.

According to a press release, speakers highlighted the right to self-determination and urged the international community to come forward and press India to fulfil the UN resolutions in this regard.

They said India did not accept Pakistan from its heart and wanted to continue its oppression against Kashmiris. They said on one hand the Indian rulers wanted to hold talks with Pakistan but on the other they wanted to oppress the Kashmiris.

They asked the UN and international organisations to hold protest against human rights violation in the occupied Kashmir and Indian aggression in clear-cut terms.
