KARACHI, Jan 5: There are great opportunities to enhance trade, promote tourism and inter-action between the people of Poland and Pakistan. This was stated by Polish Consul General Irenuesz Makles at a reception hosted by him for diplomats at the Polish consulate to celebrate christmas and the new year. Senator Nisar A Memon, who is Chairman of the Senate Standing committee on Defence also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Makles, recalled that the turnover in trade that stood at $92.3 million did not reflect the close relations between the two countries.

The Polish diplomat stressed on promoting greater interaction between the Pakistani and Polish people.

He said that he would strive for exchange of cultural troupes between both countries besides working for more trade relations.

Mr Makles recalled that Poland was a great destination for people keen to spend summer vacations in Europe. Poland had a rich historical and cultural past, he added.

He said the proclamation of 2007 as the year of tourism in Pakistan would help bring tourists from Europe.

He said Pakistan had many beautiful places and landscapes like the mountain ranges of the Himalayas. He said such scenic places can be major tourist attractions if properly promoted.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Nisar Memon thanked the Polish envoy for his suggestions.

He said Pakistan was strong today because of her strong institutions like defence, economy and political institutions.
