KARACHI: Roads under sewage

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 4: The roads around the main Empress Market are inundated with sewage due to a choked sewerage line creating problems for shopkeepers, pedestrians and motorists.

The entire sewerage line up to the fire brigade building has been choked resulting into a mess in the busy commercial area. The business community has also expressed its concern over the situation and demanded intervention by town nazim of Saddar.

A shopkeeper said that they had been visiting the offices of the officials concerned, but to no avail.

Another told that the shopkeepers themselves had spent Rs2,400, but the line chocked again. The problem, he said, had never been solved permanently and the gutter started flowing every two month.

They also complained about the poor performance of the sanitary workers. When contacted, the town nazim was not available for comments, but it was, however, learnt from his office that the affected area was under the control of cantonment board.
