2.3m continue Haj rites

MINA, Dec 31: More than 2.3 million pilgrims here on Sunday continued the stoning of Jamarat. Official figures put the number of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia at 2.378 million, 1.654 million of them from abroad. About 55 per cent of the pilgrims from 187 nationalities are men.

The rituals began on Saturday and will continue till Tuesday.

Thousands of police have been deployed at Mina, with helicopters patrolling the valley to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. The authorities are controlling the movement of buses and cars into the valley to prevent snarl-ups.—AFP
