Police claim foiling Delhi bombing

NEW DELHI, Dec 31: Two suspected Islamic militants have been arrested with explosives hidden inside toys which they planned to blow up at a busy market here, Indian police said on Sunday.

Samimullah and Ali Mohammad, both from occupied Kashmir, were arrested at a New Delhi railway station on suspicion of belonging to Lashkar-i-Taiba, senior police official Karnal Singh told AFP.“We received a tip-off that the two men would be coming by train from Jammu,” Mr Singh said.

“We detained them and during interrogation they admitted to being members of the Lashkar, and their plan was to plant two explosive devices,” he added.

In their luggage, a bomb disposal squad found two boxes with the toys -- a toy duck and a toy bus -- filled with explosives, he said.

“It took the squad around three hours to deactivate the two bombs,” the officer added.—AFP
