KARACHI, Dec 31: Medical experts have advised the people to refrain from drinking the blood of sacrificial camels as instead of curing asthma and other respiratory diseases, as commonly believed, it may cause diseases.

Experts told Dawn that such a practice could cause blood-related and abdominal diseases because the camel’s blood carries harmful bacteria, which could even endanger life. Besides, Islam forbids such practice.

The experts said people often cut sacrificial meat on the ground, which was hazardous for health. They said after slaughtering an animal the meat should be put at a hygienic place before cutting it into pieces because lethal viruses and bacteria, which cause tetanus and other dangerous diseases, can enter the meat.

They said meat should be washed carefully before storage so that any possibility of the breeding of bacteria could be avoided.

According to him, meat could be stored in freezers for two months on temperatures below 3 degrees Celsius. Heart patients should avoid eating fats.

People should not overeat. A maximum of 150 grams meat daily is enough for an adult. Any one who eats more will be prone to various health diseases. Old people should eat as little meat as possible.
