McMillan called into NZ one-day squad

QUEENSTOWN (New Zealand), Dec 29: New Zealand cricket reject Craig McMillan has been called into the New Zealand one-day squad with batsman Nathan Astle in doubt for the second One-day International (ODI) clash with Sri Lanka here on Sunday.

McMillan, who played the last of his 175 one-dayers against Australia early last year, was to join the squad following their seven-wicket loss in the first one-dayer on Thursday, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Friday.

The 30-year-old has been called in after his brother-in-law Astle suffered bruising to his thigh after being hit three times on the same spot by Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas during his innings of 83.

Batsman Ross Taylor, who scored an undefeated 128 in only his third one-dayer on Thursday, is expected to be fit for Sunday's match after suffering dehydration during his innings. Taylor, 22, was admitted to hospital briefly on Thursday and placed on a drip before rejoining the team.—AFP
