LAHORE, Dec 29: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has issued dos and don’ts regarding sacrificial animals and meat storage and consumption. The Animal’s Product Technology Department of the university said the people should buy those animals for sacrifice that look active and healthy and without any injury or wound. They should be slaughtered with clean utensils and rust-free knives and meat should be washed and kept in clean utensils and should not be frozen immediately.
The meat should be frozen in small bags instead of bulk and its repeated freezing should be avoided. The meat can be stored in freezers for a long time but it loses its water contents or drip resulting in change of its flavour. Organs like heart, liver, spleen and kidney should be cooked afresh as their tissues are soft and need special low temperatures for storage.
