HYDERABAD, Dec 29: Sindh Minister for Education Dr. Hamida Khuhro said on Friday that as a measure to improve the standard of education the government would impose ban on the transfer of teachers, and students from primary to matriculation would be taught English, Sindhi and Urdu as compulsory subjects with effect from new academic year.

Talking to reporters after attending a training workshop for college teachers organised at Elsa Kazi campus of the University of Sindh, the minister said that composite examinations of class-IX and X would be held simultaneously.

She said that the government was in consultations with senior lawyers on filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court’s decision to lift ban on teachers’ associations. Sindh chief minister in his capacity as the province’s chief executive had the authority to take final decision on the appeal, she said.

Dr. Khuhro said that around 3,500 schools were not functioning in the province. A total of 100 schools were lying closed only in Jamshoro district but the government had succeeded in reopening 1,500 schools in recent past and was making efforts to reopen the rest as well, she said.—Bureau
