KARACHI, Dec 29: Reaffirming the armed forces’ commitment to safeguard Pakistan’s geographical and ideological frontiers, and turning the country into a moderate and enlightened Islamic state, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed pledged to enhance country’s indigenous defence capability and pursue it with optimum vigour.

The chief of the Air Staff was speaking at the 86th Officers’ Commissioning parade at the Pakistan Naval Academy, PNS Rehbar on Friday.

He said the construction of Agosta submarines, acquisition of F-22 P frigates from China and joint production of JF-17 Thunder aircraft would definitely strengthen country’s offensive punch.

Commenting on the PN’s role in the international Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan (CMCP), he said that navy’s participation had enhanced the PN’s capability of quick response, besides deterring terrorists and checking arms, drugs and human smuggling.

Emphasising the importance of joint operations of various elements of the armed forces, he said these were force multipliers and in today’s complex war scenario it was mandatory for every soldier to gain expertise for well-coordinated response.

Midshipman Shahab Hussain Khan was awarded sword of honour for his overall performance. Sub-Lt Imran Khan received Quaid-i-Azam gold medal whereas Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee gold medal went to Cadet Mohammad Abdullah Afzal. Midshipman Farhan Hussain was awarded Academy’s Dirk.
