KARACHI: MMA legislators condemn action

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 29: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MNAs Muhammad Hussain Mehanti and Laeeq Khan have condemned the brutal police action and violence against the women and children who wanted to demonstrate outside GHQ in Rawalpindi for the recovery of their missing husbands, fathers, brothers and sons.

Terming it unethical and illegal, they said in a statement that that the affected families of the missing people, picked up by secret agencies personnel, were continuously protesting but the government instead of making the whereabouts of the missing persons public and admitting their abduction by the government agencies were rubbing salt on the wounds of the families.

They said that kidnapping of political leaders and workers by secret agencies was the worst example of political victimisation which was an attempt to push the country into a civil war.

They said staging protest and demonstration was the constitutional and legal right of every citizen and depriving the people of this right by force was contrary to civil liberties and democratic values.

Pasban leaders said the pictures appearing in the press and images on TV had exposed the claims made by General Musharraf that his government was a model of enlightenment moderation.
