ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday formally approved the National Assembly’s schedule for the fifth and last parliamentary year and sent the schedule of National Assembly sessions listed to be held in the year to the speaker of the assembly.
According to sources in the ministry of parliamentary affairs, the first parliamentary session, slated for Feb 6, 2007, would continue till Feb 23. Overall, seven National Assembly sessions with a total of 130 days are scheduled to be held during the year.
Meanwhile, the summary of the Senate’s sessions was sent to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, first of which is scheduled to be held on Jan 16, 2007.
WATER DISPUTE: A formal notification has been issued for the constitution of a committee to resolve differences between Sindh and Balochistan over water-related matters under the chairman of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa). However, it was learnt that the ministry of water and power has failed to devise rules and regulations for the committee.
According to the Irsa notification, Shafqat Masood, chairman Irsa, would head the committee while representatives of Wapda and Nespak and chief engineers Sukkur and Quetta, were members of the committee.
The committee would forward its suggestions to the ministry of water and power to resolve the differences between Sindh and Balochistan over provision of water from the Kirthar Canal.
Irsa has also agreed with Balochistan’s perspective about water theft.—Online
