VEHARI, Dec 27: The unannounced loadshedding and frequent tripping in Vehari and other parts of the district are causing great inconveniences as well as financial losses to the people.
The power supply remained suspended for several hours in Karampur, Jallah Jeem, Mailsi, Garah Morr, Pipli Stop, Muslim Town, Lalazar Colony, Luddan, various parts of Burewala tehsil, Makka Town, Machiwal, Temor Sheed Feeder and several other parts of the district. The tripping also damaged electronic items, including refrigerators, TV sets, VCRs and CD players.
The Mepco resorted to loadshedding without any prior notice that had also affected greatly the business community. Owners of various private clinics and state-run hospitals, including RHCs and BHUs, are also facing problems on account of long hours of power suspension.
Farmers of Karampur Town said that they were undergoing difficulties in supplying water to their wheat crop due to unscheduled power suspension.
However, Mepco officials were found absent when contacted by this correspondent.
While Mepco’s Vehari circle officials claimed that surge in the use of electric heaters was causing disruption in power outages.
A source said that most of Mepco employees used the heaters for cooking in the winter season. They also extended this free of cost facility to their relatives, he said.
Vehari XEN Attaullah Bhutta claimed that the power supply was being suspended for few hours on account of repair and maintenance work the schedule of which had already been announced. While the recent spell of rain in the district had also affected various power supply lines, he said.
The XEN has urged the consumers to use electricity sparingly during peak hours between 6pm to 10pm.
