QUETTA, Dec 27: Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has said that 285 big and small dams projects have been completed and the federal government has provided Rs2.5 billion for the construction of 200 more reservoirs in the province.
Talking to ambassadors of Libya, Tunisia, Yemen, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Morocco and Tajikistan who called on him here, the governor said that for the last six years Balochistan had witnessed development activities.
Mr Ghani said that the communication sector was on the top of the priority list and special attention was being paid to water resources and reservoirs.
He said the government was also making concerted efforts to provide electricity to the far-flung areas of the province and work had been started on Dadu-Khuzdar and Dera Ghazi Khan-Loralai transmission lines.
The governor said that oil and gas exploration was in process and several foreign companies were working in Balochistan, adding that gas reserves had been found in Khost and Jhal Magsi areas.
He said steps were being taken to promote international trade activities in the province and the Gwadar deep sea port would be connected through railway with neighbouring countries.
