PESHAWAR, Dec 26: A powerful bomb ripped through a car parked opposite the main entrance of the Peshawar International Airport on Tuesday morning, killing one person and wounding two others, police said.
The explosion, which occurred during the rush hour, damaged five vehicles in the parking lot, while a portion of the boundary wall protecting army installations also collapsed. The blast tore the car into pieces and two other vehicles were badly damaged.
“Absolutely, it is an act of terrorism, and can be linked to the previous blasts in the city,” said Malik Saad, said the chief of the Capital City Police.Capital City Police Officer Malik Saad said three people were wounded in Tuesday's explosion, of which one died in the Khyber Teaching Hospital.
The deceased, who was a conductor of the pickup, belonged to Buner district and was waiting outside the airport building to receive some passengers.
The bomb went off in an old Suzuki car parked opposite the main entrance of Peshawar International Airport at around 7:15am when the airport usually witnesses rush of the passengers going to and coming from Middle East countries. However, the explosion did not disturb the flight schedule.
One Naveed Khan, 20, son of Khair Mohammad of Jehanabad hamlet of the Jangi village of Daggar tehsil, Buner district, died on the spot. He was waiting for some passengers from the airport.
A 45-year-old Siraj, son of Sher Mohammad of Regi locality in Peshawar, and Anwar Zeb, 30, son of Karim Bakhsh of the Khazana village of Swat district, sustained injuries.
