KARACHI: Govt determined to root out corruption: CM
KARACHI, Dec 26: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that it was a bitter fact that corruption prevailed in our society and hiding this fact was tantamount to promoting the same.
Talking to members of the managing committee of the Karachi Bar Association that called him at the Chief Minister's House here on Tuesday, he said his government was determined to root out corruption from the society.
Dr Arbab said that whenever he took action against corrupt elements he faced resistance and opposition. He said that despite this he had always tried to promote honest elements in the bureaucracy.
The chief minister said that lawyer community played an important role in getting justice for the deprived and neglected people. He said that in the past, lawyers also played a major role for restoration of democracy.
Terming lawyers an important segment of the society, he urged them to cooperate with the government in constructive and positive activities.
Dr Arbab said that he was taking steps to improve education sector in the province and had formed monitoring committee in every district to keep a close vigil on performance of schools. He also highlighted the importance of English language and technical education for the prosperity of the country.
The chief minister announced Rs1million grant for the Karachi Bar Association. On the occasion, Karachi Bar Association General Secretary Naeem Qureshi invited him to visit the bar association office, which he accepted and said that he would visit the Karachi Bar Association soon.
Sindh Law Minister Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, Special Assistant Amir Abdi, Special Secretary Dr Muhammad Ali, OSD Dr Badr Channa and others were also present.
The Karachi Bar Association delegation comprised of KBA president Iftikhar Javed Qazi, vice-president Qadir Khan, joint secretary Amir Niaz Khan, Treasurer Mohammad Naseer Abbasi and others. On the occasion, the Sindh chief minister hosted a lunch for the delegates.Meanwhile, Dr Arbab met Adviser Faqir Jadim Mangrio and MPAs Sadaqat Jatoi, Jam Madad Ali, Abdi Jatoi and Sajeela Legahri. He said that all-out steps should be taken to complete ongoing uplift projects in the province. He urged the MPAs to monitor uplift activities in their areas so that they could be completed on time.-—PPI
