KARACHI, Dec 26: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) chief Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the country cannot get rid of the military dictatorship unless its people launch a movement, said a central leader of the PMP-N on Tuesday.
In an attempt to form a national alliance by taking all parties and political groups in opposition onboard, he has extended invitation to different leaders and retired judges to join hands on a minimum five points for launching a movement.
These points are: restoration of democracy, setting up of independent judiciary, supremacy of parliament, constitution of an autonomous election commission for holding impartial, free and fair elections by a caretaker government without General Pervez Musharraf and the removal of all unconstitutional and un-ethical restrictions on return of exiled leaders
Talking to Dawn, Sardar Rahim, who had just returned after attending at party leaders conference in London, said Nawaz Sharif had handed over letters to him for delivering to politicians and retired judges living in Sindh.
They addresses included veteran politician Sardar Sherbaz Mazari, former caretaker Prime Minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, former Sindh governor and chief minister Sardrar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, former chief minister of Balochistan Sardar Attaullah Khan Mengal, Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Shahid Bugti, Rasool Bux Palejo and Dr Quadir Magsi,
The retired judges invited to join hands for launching a countrywide movement included Justice Saeeduzzaman Sidiqui, Justice Mamnoon Qazi, Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid, Justice Wajeehuddin and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan chief Anas Noorani.
In reply to a question, Sardar Rahim said the party leadership was making every effort to take all those parties and their leaders on board who had reservations by addressing them so that the country could rid itself of the military rule for good and a true democratic order be created to put Pakistan on the road to development and prosperity.
To another question, he said Nawaz Sharif was determined to return home with the announcement of the election schedule.
