RAWALPINDI, Dec 24: An investigation has been started against four policemen after they had a brawl at the New Town police station over the release of a man. The District Police Officer, Saud Aziz on Saturday suspended the four policemen and ordered an investigation and, if found guilty, registration of an FIR against them under the Police Order 2002.
The brawl started after ASI Muzaffar and constable Zafarullah during a patrolling arrested a man on the charge of possessing liquor. They brought him to the police station and later released him.
Police sources said while the accused was being released, another constable, Raza intervened and stopped the two policemen from releasing the accused.
“Zafarullah attacked and beat up Raza, while Munsif pounced upon Zafarullah to rescue Raza,” a police official said.
Other staff of the police station intervened and overpowered them. Later, the incident was brought into the notice of the DPO.—Staff Reporter
