LAHORE, Dec 24: Fancied chestnut colt Lucifer sprang a big surprise when winning the term race for two-year-old Pakistani colts and fillies run over 1100m in a record fastest timing of one minute 6 2/5 secs during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden by Aamir Pervez, Lucifer bettered the previous best timing of one min 7 4/5 secs set up by Charismatic last August. Lucifer beat fancied bay filly Chanela by a neck while Desert Prince and Prince Salman completed the frame among eight runners.

Another fancied colt Fajer, ridden by Shahid Rehman, flew home to win the Khanani And Kalia Cup contested over 1400 metres.

He beat Dexterity by over a length after a great deal of struggle in the home stretch. Brummell, defying a top weight of 11-8 finished third by a length while Sher-e-Gujrat completed the frame. Only six ran for the class I, II and III combined handicap race.

Jockeys Shahid Rehman and Aamir Pervez highlighted the day's racing bringing home a brace of winners each. Haji Ghulam Sarwar sent out three winners.
