KARACHI, Dec 24: The government has allocated Rs228 million in the current fiscal year's budget for the provision of water to the Baba, Bhit and Salehabad islands in the jurisdiction of Kemari Town.
This was stated by the nazim of Kemari Town, Humayun Khan, on Sunday.
After the completion of a survey and preparation of PC-I in this respect, the Karachi
Water and Sewerage Board has appointed a consultant, he added.
He stated that the residents of these islands had been facing shortage of potable water for long.
Humayun Khan said that drinking water had been provided to the Shamspir Island, which had been without this facility for over 30 years.
“Our efforts are to make available water to households and steps are being taken in this connection', he said.
Humayun Khan pointed out that the Karachi Port Trust had been approached for the provision of a link road between these islands and the city.—APP
