PESHAWAR: Rs750 million gas scheme announced: ‘NWFP rich in natural resources’


PESHAWAR, Dec. 23: Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said on Saturday the frontier province possessed all the natural resources which, if properly tapped, could ensure sustainable economic development.

Addressing a public meeting in the Shabqadar district, Charsadda, Mr Sherpao said through effective utilisation of the province’s resources, desirable results could be achieved for the betterment of the poor segment of society.

Accusing the ANP and the MMA governments of ignoring Tehsil Shabqadar, he said the PPP had started executing development schemes for the development and prosperity of the area.

He urged the people not to give credit to others for the projects started by the PPP.

Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, who is also central President of PPP, said Rs63 billion gigantic Munda dam project would usher in agricultural revolution in the area as it would help generate countless jobs besides fulfilling the irrigation need of Tehsil Shabqadar.

Similarly, he said, Rs750 million Sui gas scheme had been approved for the area and Rs50 million would be spent on electricity. To improve the road network in the area, he said, Rs.7 million had been approved. Besides, he said, the work on installation of a clean drinking water filter plant would soon start.

On this occasion, the minister announced provision of 10 transformers and Rs2 million for carpeting of streets in area. An ambulance had also been provided to Shabqadar hospital while condition of the hospital would be improved, the minister promised.

For convenience of the people, he said, a Nadra office and Utility Store had been opened in the area.

He also announced on this occasion early recruitment of the people for the Haleemzai platoon in the Frontier Constabulary.

Speaking on this occasion, Senator Haji Ghufran announced dowry for five poor girls and scholarship for 50 students of the tehsil. The public meeting was also addressed by MPAs Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, Alamzeb Umerzai.—APP
