Injured Razzaq likely to miss South Africa Tests

KARACHI, Dec 22: All-rounder Abdul Razzaq said Friday he might miss Pakistan's three-Test series in South Africa next month because of a calf injury.

The 27-year-old injured tissue in his calf muscle during Pakistan's series-clinching win in the fifth and final one-day international against the West Indies earlier this month.

“I have suffered a calf muscle injury and it usually takes three weeks to heel. After that period the doctors will give it another MRI scan before they decide when I can resume playing,” Razzaq told AFP.

Razzaq, who has played 46 Tests and 224 one-day internationals, said he was disappointed with the injury.

“When you miss cricket through an injury it's very disappointing and missing a series against a country like South Africa would be a big disappointment. I will do my best to feature in the last Test,” said Razzaq.

Pakistan fly to South Africa on January 3 to play three Tests and five one-day internationals.

Razzaq said he hoped the injury would heal quickly. “It is good that I have suffered this injury now, rather than before the World Cup. I hope I can regain fitness and then play my part in the World Cup,” said Razzaq of the event scheduled to be held in the West Indies from March.— AFP
