Stage set for Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup at KRC: Memorable race pledged

KARACHI, Dec 21: The annual red-ribbon event of Karachi Race Club (KRC) – The Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup – will be held in a befitting manner at the Karachi Racecourse on Dec 25.

Matters pertaining to the event were discussed at a high level meeting held at the Kingri House with Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara in the chair.

Administrator KRC, Fakir Syed Aitzaz Uddin, secretary, Ayaz Hussain Shah Rashdi, deputy secretary, Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi and member Racing Committee, Kamal Farooq, were present on the occasion.

Pir Pagara asked the officials to leave no stone unturned in making the event colourful and memorable.

The KRC is being refurbished to give it a fascinating look. Among other things, the betting ring which was without roof has been covered with topping for the convenience of race-goers.

Besides the Quaid-i-Azam Cup, the AKD Nursery Cup, the Christmas Cup and 2000 Guineas of Pakistan are among a card of nine races drawn for the day.

The KRC has also extended invitations to chairman Lahore Race Club (LRC), Tariq Aziz, assistant secretary, Shahzad and secretary, Jockey Club of Pakistan, Brig Mohammad Akram.

A number of jockeys and punters are also due to arrive to attend the prestigious race meeting.

Meanwhile, an exclusive ladies enclosure has been set up in the main building to encourage women owners as well as other womenfolk.

Presently, eight women are enlisted as owners with the KRC. They include Khalida Yasmin, Shamim Ara Begum, Kanwal Hanif, Beenish Hasan, Zenab Ali, Eman Ali, Zubeda Rehman and Kanwal Amir.
