SUKKUR, Dec 21: Provincial Revenue Minister Irfan Gul Magsi has said that over 10,000 villages will be regularised under the Goth Abad scheme.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, the minister said that the Sindh Chief Minister, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, would inaugurate the scheme after January 15 next.

Talking about Dingi and Bhidhar, he reiterated that Sindh was the sole proprietor of the island, and “we have proved it through documents while the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has failed to produce any proof in this regard”. He said that if PQA had any proof, it should come up with it.

The minister said Sindh chief minister was engaged in an interaction with the federal government over this high profile issue.

Expressing his displeasure, the minister said that 18,000 revenue cases were pending with the department and the authorities had been asked to clear the backlog.

He further said that 90 per cent of agriculture tax had been recovered so far, while the remaining would be recovered till January 31 next at any cost.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Member of BoR, Syed Anwar Haider, said that all out efforts were underway to root out corruption from the revenue department and added that 18 mukhtiarkars were suspended on corruption charges and two of them sacked which included two from Sukkur.

He said that efforts were also under way to computerize the revenue record and work in this regard was being carried out on modern lines.
