KARACHI: New fishing policy in offing

KARACHI, Dec 21: The federal government is attaching great importance to fisheries sector as it has great potential to further the development of the national economy. This was stated here on Thursday by the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture and Livestock, Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, during a visit to Karachi Fish Harbour where he attended a briefing.

The minister said the government was interested in the uplift of fisheries and was making all-out efforts to promote seafood industry.

Terming the forthcoming visit of the European Union’s inspection team important, Mr Bosan said that he was satisfied with efforts being made to improve condition of the harbour by the Sindh government and the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA). He said a new fishing policy was in the offing and suggestions from stakeholders would be incorporated in the new policy.
