KARACHI: 535 surgeries at LGH


KARACHI, Dec 21: A record number of ortho-related surgeries were performed in Lyari General Hospital in December surpassing previous records. The hospital’s monthly statistics show 535 surgeries were performed by various departments. Of these, 187 were performed by the Orthopaedics Department. The department wise break-up is Surgery Unit-1 (72), SU-2 (77), ENT (55), Eye (70), Gynae-1 (17), Gynae-2 (20), Gynae-EOT (27), Urology (8), Emergency OT (3) and Ortho (187).

The department head, Professor Hasan Dost Afridi, said this was the first time such a large number of complicated ortho-related surgeries were performed at the hospital in a month despite meagre resources.

Medical Superintendent Muhktiar Khwaja, who heads hospital administration helped achieve this landmark, he added.—Our Staff Reporter
