Moon Dazzler to vie for spoils today

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Dec 19: A small card of five events has been chalked out for the 2nd mid-week Lahore Gymkhana Meeting to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday. Two races will be held for animals in class five, two for class seven and one for ponies of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) Riding School being used for training youngsters desirous to learn horse-riding.

Class five races will be gone over 1100m, class seven over 1000m

and the ponies race will be contested over 600m. This will perhaps be the shortest distance race ever held at the LRC during its 82-year history since it was founded in 1924 during the British colonial rule.

In the Bhakkar Plate, a race for class V Division 1 and 11 animals in combined handicap, there are 13 contestants. Of them three fillies come in to reckoning, namely, Moon Dazzler, Jago and Lucky Coin. On recent performance, Moon Dazzler is the fastest among them but on old form Fidel Castro stands out. He has come down from Class IV division II. This will be the fourth race in racing order.

Dream Comes True, Rough Tough and Major Rana look good in the third race, a class V division 11 race. They should fight it out for top honours.

The second race meant for class VII division I has a dozen sprinters. On recent show at the Racecourse Murad King, Daisy Against All and Dashing Paradise seems the best among the lot. With a good rider up in the saddle, the four-year-old filly Daisy Against All should have the better of others.

In the opener there are nine runners barring last-minute withdrawals. They are all irregular performers, however, Billoo The Great, Shah Rani and Malang Aya seem good.

They should fight for top position. The gelding Billoo The Great is fastest among the three.

The fifth and last race comprises seven ponies, being used for training of youngsters at the LRC riding school. The race card is silent about their parentage but only the age is given with the name of owners, three are owned by one owner two by another and one each by two others. Interesting all are being trained by one trainer.

The first race will be held at 12.30pm.
