MULTAN, Dec 19: A dozen people allegedly gangraped the 12-year old daughter of a labourer for three days in Mian Chunnu in Khanewal district.

Liaquat Ali, a resident of Katchi Abadi Maherabad, his wife and 12-year old daughter were collecting cotton from the road early on Wednesday morning when three people —- Ramzan, alias Jani, Nadeem, alias Deema and Rashid —- kidnapped the girl. They were in a rickshaw and were drunk. The parents of the girl ran after the rickshaw but it sped away.

Liaquat Ali and his wife continued their search for her with the help of locals.

Early on Friday morning, Rafique, a donkey-cart driver, spotted the girl lying unconscious in a bazaar on Talamba Road.

He recognised the girl and informed her parents. They rushed to the place and took the girl to hospital.

The girl told police that the kidnappers took her to a poultry farm where 12 people raped her for three days. She said that she could recognize them.

Police, local councilor Muzaffar Qadri and Liaquat searched for poultry farms in nearby locations. In Chak 30, some two kilometers from the village of the girl, they spotted a poultry farm and took a man into custody on suspicion.

The girl recognized him as Ramzan, alias Jani, who told the police he was one of the three people who had kidnapped the girl. He identified the other two kidnappers as Nadeem, alias Deema and Rashid.

He said they took the girl to the poultry farm and raped her. Later, he said five more people raped her.

The magistrate concerned ordered medical examination of the girl.

Mian Chunnu city police station’s SI Muhammad Shafi told this correspondent that they had not yet registered a case because the victim’s family had given a written statement that they would lodge the FIR on Wednesday (today).

He said the police were trying to arrest the other accused.
