PESHAWAR: Durrani sets aside Rs3m for church

PESHAWAR, Dec 19: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has announced that Rs3 million will be set aside for the renovation of the United Church which is situated on the campus of Peshawar University.

Speaking at a ceremony held here on Tuesday, he said that according to the PC-1 of the church project, it would cost Rs5 million. The chief minister said the remaining Rs2 million would be provided by a minority MNA.

He said the government would renovate worship places belonging to the followers of all faiths in the province, adding that work on a church in Nathiagali had already been completed.

He underscored the need for a dialogue among followers of different religions and said use of force could not resolve problems.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated a squash complex at the university. The project will cost Rs23.640 million.
