KARACHI: Shaukat Siddiqui laid to rest

KARACHI, Dec 19: Famous Urdu fiction writer Shaukat Siddiqui who had died of cardiac arrest on Monday was laid to rest in DHA graveyard on Tuesday.

A large number of people including politicians, literary and showbiz personalities including Raza Rabbani, Rashid Rabbani, Shakeel Adilzada, Shafi Aqeel, Dr Hanif Fauq, Manzoor Qureshi, Mehmood Sham, Agha Masood Hussain, Qazi Wajid, Anwer Sen Roy and Rashid Noor etc, attended his funeral prayers at Ali Masjid in Khayaban-i-Mahafiz, Phase-VI, DHA.

Soyem will be held on Wednesday after Jumma prayers at his residence, 139/1, 31st Street, Khayaban-i-Mahafiz, DHA.

CONDOLENCES: The country’s literati expressed their sorrow and grief over the demise of Shaukat Siddiqui.

Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) chairman Iftikhar Arif on Tuesday said the death of Shaukat Siddiqui was a great loss for the world of literature. In his condolence message to the bereaved family, he said late Siddiqui was a trendsetter in Urdu literature.

He further said that his creative and research services as a prominent novel and short story writer would always be remembered.

“He portrayed our real life and class struggle quite artistically in his writings,” he added.

PAL’s resident director, Agha Noor Mohammad Pathan, on Tuesday organised a condolence meeting in the premises of the Academy of Letters Karachi, wherein Shaukat Siddiqui was extolled for his literary achievements.

The vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, expressed grief over Shaukat Siddiqui’s death and said his classics reflected true picture of the social life of the sub-continent. He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace.

Critic Prof Sehar Ansari and Arts Council Karachi’s vice-president Saifur Rehman Grami also expressed sorrow over Shaukat Siddiqui’s death.
