GUJRANWALA, Dec 18: Sabzi Mandi police claimed they had arrested five suspects involved in kidnap for ransom of two doctors after a raid here on Monday.
Police said that Dr Abdul Aziz and Dr Abdul Latif had been kidnapped for Rs5 million ransom when they were on their way home from Qila Dedar Singh. The kidnappers had later released them after receiving ransom amount from their heirs.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused were present at an outhouse on Sheikhupura Road, a police party, on the directive of DPO Mian Muhammad Asif, raided there and arrested them. The police also recovered a tractor-trolley used in kidnapping of doctors.
During interrogation, the accused gave out the name of their ringleader as Farooq Ahmad. Police were conducting raids for the arrest of their accomplices. However, the police did not disclose the identity of the arrested accused.
ARRESTED: The regional police asserted they had arrested 105 proclaimed offenders and 89 court fugitives and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from their possession during a general hold-up in six districts of the division on Monday.
RPO Malik Muhammad Iqbal pointed out that some 118 cases of illicit arms were also registered. He said police recovered 13 rifles, 65 pistols, 14 revolvers, 15 guns, nine carbines and 295 cartridges, besides 21kg hashish, 36 bottles of liquor and looted goods worth Rs362,000 from their possession. At least five cars and 26 motorcycles were also seized during the general hold-up.
Meanwhile, NH&MP’s Kharian to Lahore section in charge SSP Osama Mumtaz Raja said the motorway police had issued 41,339 challan tickets and recovered Rs12.82 million fine from drivers for violating traffic laws during the month of November.
He said that the motorway police had also recovered three stolen cars which were returned to their owners. He claimed that no incident of dacoity or robbery occurred on the GT Road during the period.
