JACOBABAD, Dec 18: The Deputy opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, has said that Bhindhar and Dingi islands off Karachi were the property of Sindh and the federal government‘s claim over them are unjustified.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he said that the federal government’s move would further increase sense of deprivation among the people of Sindh.
The PPP leader said that his party had no objection on investment by any foreign company in the country but “we are of the view that no one have right to claim the property of the province”.
The federal government could not sell the property of Sindh and termed the disposal of Dingi and Bhindar islands to the UAE-based property giant Emaar “unlawful and unconstitutional”.
He further said that the government was generating issues and said ‘construction of Kalabagh dam’ was part of the same drive. He further said, if rulers were sincere with the country, they must stop this practice.
He suggested the rulers either to save the country or build the dam. He warned that the rulers to desist from raising such issues, otherwise, masses will come out on the streets .
To a query, he said that MMA leaders were accusing the PPP of creating hindrance in making a grand alliance and recalled that PPP, despite having 81 MNAs, supported the MMA to lead the opposition in the National Assembly while the MMA leaders signed the17th amendment bill and proved that it was the “B-team” of the rulers which had de-shaped the democracy.
He blamed MMA for division of opposition and advised them to support the ARD on one point agenda.
He brushed aside the impression that any deal was signed between the government and the PPP and termed it ‘mere propaganda of the government’.
He said Benazir Bhutto will take part in elections and no one can stop her to become prime minister for the third term.
He said Ms Bhutto will announce the date of her return to the country after the election schedule is made public.
