KARACHI, Dec 18: The government-run primary and secondary schools in Mubarak Village, Keamari Town are without teaching staff for quite some time. The village situated along the Hawkesbay coastline bordering Balochistan, is one of the oldest fishermen’s settlements in city with a population of 10,000 people.

The two boys’ schools in the area lack the basic facilities and teaching staff. On June 7 last, during a visit to the village city nazim had pledged to transform these into model schools with all basic education facilities. These included appointment of teachers, supply of books and other materials, besides renovation of schools’ buildings. .

According to the area people, despite passage of six months no action has been taken in this regard. The area people are also facing hardships due to the unavailability of doctor and medicines at the village dispensary.

According to the village’s head, Mohammad Haroon, three weeks back he along with UC Nazim Mubarak Singoo Baloch held a meeting with EDO Health at the CDGK office about appointment of doctor in the village.

Mr Haroon informed that the EDO plainly refused to do so, saying that the village was too far away and there was nothing the city government could do.

He also complained that the village had no water and electricity system despite the fact that Hub Dam and Hubco power plant were not too far away from the area. Villagers either get potable water through tankers from Karachi or use contaminated water from ponds.
