KARACHI: Campaign to procure textbooks

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 17: The town municipal administration of Lyari has launched a campaign for procuring textbooks for schools in the town and for this purpose it has sought the assistance of the provincial government.

At present, there are 15 small libraries and a large textbook library in the town. Most of these libraries have no facilities of newspapers and other reading materials and the books are also outdated.

Mulla Fazil Library situated in Chawkiwara is a large textbook library but lacks proper facilities. The building of the library is in a bad shape as it has not been renovated for years.

There is a proper system for procurement of textbooks to facilitate hundreds of poor and needy students and therefore, the Lyari town administration has approached the Sindh government for provisions of textbooks.

It is learnt that the Sindh education department had planned to procure books worth Rs23 million for libraries in schools and colleges throughout the province within the next three months.

Meanwhile, Lyari Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayyaz has urged the administration of Lyari General Hospital to regularly organise health awareness programmes with the coordination of the Pakistan Medical Association and other NGOs.
