BAHAWALPUR, Dec 16: The proposed bill for the provincial autonomy will be a futile attempt without the establishment of a Seraiki province.

Pakistan Seraiki Party central deputy secretary-general Allama Iqbal Waseem told journalists here on Saturday that the Seraiki province would provide more solidarity to the federation.

He said that the proposed autonomy bill would bring more exploitation and sufferings to the people in Seraiki-speaking areas.

Answering a question, Allama Waseem asserted that the demand for a separate provincial status for Bahawalpur was the talk of yesteryears.

He demanded that the issues like revival of Bahawalnagar-Bhantinda railway track, release of water in the river Sutlej and liberal issuance of visas to Seraiki-speaking Indians should be included in the Indo-Pak composite dialogue.

He also urged to allot Cholistani land to its people, resolve local farmers’ problems, particularly the sugarcane growers, and declare palaces of the Abbasi family as national heritage.

He also supported the women’s protection bill.

COMPLAINT: The Borstal jail superintendent lodged a complaint with the DCO against a Kotwali sub-inspector for trespassing, interference in official duties, use of abusive language and threat to jail officials here on Saturday.

According to an official handout, jail Superintendent Mansoor Akbar alleged that armed SI Shabbir and his accomplices in plainclothes entered the jail without the permission of any competent authority on Friday night and tried to interfere in official matters.

He further alleged that the SI forced the lady assistant superintendent (jail) to present before him all warders for identification parade otherwise he would call the police force.

The SI also snatched the official record from her.

When contacted, the DPO was not available for comments.
