Transporters’ strike hits Karachi

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 15: A man was killed and over a dozen others injured during the transport strike called by the Pakhtun Action Committee in Karachi on Friday in protest against alleged police highhandedness and demolition of Katchi Abadis.

The strike affected the civic life in important areas of the city as most public vehicles stayed off the road. A number of educational institutions and markets and shops in many areas were closed and the few which opened reported little business.

The strike turned violent after hundreds of protesters clashed with police and Rangers in several areas. The injured included six personnel of law-enforcement agencies.

The protesters burnt three vehicles and blockaded roads. Even ambulances were pelted with stones.
