SUKKUR, Dec 15: A protest march was held by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan here on Friday against unemployment, price hike and lawlessness. Hundreds of the activists led by Mufti Mohammad Ibrahim Qadri, Musharraf Mehmood Qadri and others marched from Ghousia Mosque through the city’s main thoroughfares to Clock Tower, where they staged a demonstration. The protesters were chanting slogans against the government.

The speakers criticised the government, saying that it had failed to provide relief to people. They said that unemployment, inflation and lawlessness were on the rise.

They said people were committing suicides due to unemployment and poverty, while the government functionaries were spending millions of rupees on foreign tours.

They urged the government to reduce the prices of petroleum products as they were on decline in the international market.

They demanded immediate formation of a caretaker government and general elections under an impartial Election Commission.

WOMEN’S PROTECTION ACT: Scores of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists staged a rally at Bhittai Chowk in Mirpur Mathelo on Friday in protest against the passage of the women’s protection bill.

The activists led by Maulana Akhtar Lund and Khair Mohammad Tunio marched from Chowk Ghantaghar raising slogans against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders condemned the passage of the bill, alleging that it would promote obscenity instead of protecting women.

They urged the government to amend the bill according to the recommendations of the Ulema committee.
