LAHORE, Dec 14: Punjab Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi has stated that the Punjab Seed Council has approved three new cotton seed varieties that will bring about a revolution in agro-economy with their better yield potential.
Chairing the 33rd meeting of the Punjab Seed Council here on Thursday, he said that the newly approved variety CIM-534 had been evolved by the Cotton Research Institute, Multan, which had great resistance against virus, pest attack and temperature.
He claimed the second variety MNH-786 had also been evolved by the same institute, which bore qualities of early maturing, was resistant against pest and diseases and comparatively high yielding variety.
He said the third cotton variety NIBJI-2 was evolved by the ational Institute for Bio Technology and Genetic Engineering, Faisalabad, which was resistant against leaf curl virus, drought and pest attacks. —Staff Reporter
