KARACHI, Dec 14: A young man’s body found earlier this week in DHA has been identified as that of a of SZABIST Mirpurkhas campus student, Abdul Sami.

He was kidnapped by two of his friends from Mirpurkhas and killed in Karachi. Both the kidnappers come from affluent backgrounds, a senior police officer said. Joint efforts of Mirpurkhas and Karachi police led to the culprits arrest.

The TPO Clifton, SP Azad Khan, told Dawn the deceased Sami, 19, was son of Nawab Abdul Sattar, a prominent figure of Mirpurkhas. He was kidnapped by his friends Arshad and Rashid from Mirpurkhas on December 5. They made him unconscious by offering a cup of tea laced with sedative and brought him to Karachi where he was kept at a bungalow in DHA Phase V.

They demanded Rs20 million ransom. They tortured him with electric shocks which apparently caused his death. To ensure he was dead, they strangled him and covered his face with a polythene bag, the SP said. Then they dumped his body on Khayaban-i-Iqbal, Street 27 Phase VIII stuffing it in a gunny bag. The Mirpurkhas police arrested the two kidnappers from DHA.

Both kidnappers aged around 20 come from well-off families, Arshad is the son of a cadet college principal. Rashid is the son of a feudal. The motive seems to be money, said Clifton TPO.

An FIR of the crime was registered in Mirpurkhas 230/06 under Sections 365-A and 7-ATA. Another FIR 557/06 under Sections 302 of his murder was registered at Darakshan police station.
